Honorable and distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, my sincere thanks to University Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus for inviting me to say a few words at the opening of this conference. For those who are in Labuan for the first time, let me welcome you to this beautiful island in conjunction with the Applied International Business Conference 2008 with the theme "Towards Enhancing International Competitiveness" organised by the UMS Labuan campus.

 
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the distinguished Guest-of Honour, Y.Berhormat Datuk Liew Vui Keong, Deputy Minister of International Trade & Industry for being here with us today to officiate this conference.
 
Ladies and Gentlemen,
 
LOFSA, being the one-stop regulator for the Labuan international business and financial centre (or IBFC), is proud to be associated with this conference as part of LOFSA's corporate social responsibility in the development of education in Malaysia especially, in Labuan IBFC.
 
I have no doubt that this conference will be of great benefit to all of us. This conference can be regarded as a manifestation of University Malaysia Sabah commitment to the Malaysian government's aspiration to make Labuan a premier international business and financial centre. At the same time, marked the university's contribution to the government of Malaysia's effort to make Malaysia as a centre of academic excellence.
